Habitat for Humanity ReMove Project

https://habitatcornwall.org/remove/ The ReMove Project is a turnkey solution when moving, downsizing or closing an estate (for powers of attorney) all while helping to remove stress and burdens during emotional and difficult times.

Habitat Cornwall has launched this project to meet a newly identified need in our community. We often receive calls from people as they are downsizing or moving or who are executors of estates. They have items that will move to new locations but are unsure of what to do with the rest of the ‘stuff.’

In 2020, over a 10-day period, we received 3 requests for assistance in clearing out homes due to estate closures. Unfortunately, at that time, we did not have the resources available or a program in place to provide such a level of service.

In 2021 – thanks to support from the Resilient Community Funding (Ontario Trillium Foundation) and a Municipal Grant (City of Cornwall) – the ReMove Project was funded and piloted. We are now proud to call the ReMove Project a permanent component of our ReStore.

Habitat Cornwall will send our community liaison and professional team to:

  • do an on-site inspection to develop a plan tailored to your needs

  • pack & transport items for donation, recycling or disposal (paper, plastic, scrap metal, e-waste, household hazardous waste, etc)

  • issue a tax receipt in accordance with CRA guidelines

  • provide a basic surface clean – leaving the home tidy once all items are removed

The ReMove Project is a fee-based service. We work with community groups to divert useable items from landfills and promote proper stewardship. Any items that are not able to be resold by the Habitat Cornwall ReStore will be distributed to other community groups including the SPCA, Agape, the Akwesasne Healing Centre and more.
